Stockdog training started for me being told or, more often, yelled at by instructors and clinicians, to make my dog stop, down, turn, slow down, etc. while it ran full tilt around stock but I was not given the tools or the skills necessary to insert myself into my dog’s world to accomplish even the simplest task. Working my dogs was an exercise in frustration, pitted the dog and me against each other and was counter intuitive to the training practices I grew up with as well as all livestock management practices I was taught.
